A new platform is already running $4bn and has plenty of room to grow
Man Group plc, the London-based hedge fund group headed by Stanley Fink, is probably best-known for three major brand names - the $7 billion AHL managed futures operation, and the big Chicago-based Glenwood and Pffafikon, Switzerland-based RMF multi-manager platforms.
But quietly in recent years, the group has been growing an increasingly important fourth leg to its business. This operation began as the 'new manager initiative', but has now grown to an impressive level of $4 billion in assets and appears to have virtually limitless capacity as Man adds more managers.
Reflecting its growing importance, the unit has recently been rebranded as Man Global Strategies. It is headed by Mike Lozowski, Victoria Owen and Nick Cavalla, who sit on a five-strong manager selection team alongside Man's chief investment officer David Huyton and Tim Wong, who runs AHL.
