There may be a million and one stories to tell about the hedge fund industry, but this surely is one of the strangest to come along yet. San Francisco-based hedge fund giant, Farallon, has found itself in an all-out public relations war with a group of self-avowed environmental and human
rights activists who weeks ago launched a website called www.unfarallon.info, intended to highlight what the students allege is bad behavior on the part of the fund.
Sure, student protests against big business aren't anything new in a city whose backyard is the ultra-liberal Berkeley, a town where activists fought to stop flags from flying over firehouses. But, then again, it is worth noting that this student-led effort isn't originating from the University of California at Berkeley. It is being orchestrated by students across the country at Yale, which happens to be a big investor in Farallon.
