You know that classic television commercial with the
marauding Vikings that ends with the tagline "What's in your
wallet?" Well, here is the kicker: If you are carrying a
MasterCard, you really are carrying a little bit of Viking
around with you.
Andreas Halvorsen's Viking Global Investors is one of the
largest shareholders in the credit card giant, which went
public last year. MasterCard rocketed to $110 per share in late
January, up from its $40 offering price. And Viking was there
pretty much all along the way, capturing a $70 gain on each of
the 4.5 million shares in its Viking Global Investors
That means Viking pulled in just under $315 million on a
position of 4.5 million shares. The entire Viking position
weighed in at $495 million as of late January. Viking holds a
