Scandals proliferate as Madoff fraud unfolds

Bernie Madoff and the saga of his alleged multibillion-dollar Ponzi scheme continued to dominate the news of white-collar crime this week, but some other hedge fund players managed to garner a few headlines.

Convicted Bayou Group fraudster Samuel Israel may have faded into the background since his incarceration, which followed a highly publicized manhunt that followed the suicide he staged in an effort to avoid prison, but girlfriend Debra Ryan has managed to bring his name back into the spotlight. Police at the Westchester County jail that Israel now calls home discovered $300 within the pages of a magazine Ryan sent him.
