Broker Aviate hires to grow as "hedge fund in disguise"

The addition of a former risk arb manager from Jabre Capital is the latest in a series of high-level hires at Aviate Global, the innovative brokerage set up in 2007 by ex-Merrill broker Gary Paulin and ex-Citi man Guy Gibson that aims to bring a unique buy-side perspective to the sell-side world.

Jeremy Power, who co-ran the risk arb book at Geneva-based Jabre and was formerly an M&A banker at Citi, will be a roving arbitrage and corporate action analyst at Aviate - joining a growing team of analysts under research head Paul Moran.

His appointment follows a string of recent additions in Europe and Asia, including the hiring of Nick Tims - who was formerly a managing director at Merrill, running pan-European sales - a few weeks ago from RAB Capital...
