Shorting and regulation: shooting the messenger?

The publication of a hotly-condemned EC draft directive on new regulatory proposals for EU-based alternative fund managers injected further topicality and timeliness to a session on the changing political climate for hedge funds entitled 'Shorting and Regulation: Shooting the Messenger?'.

The four panellists were: David Yarrow, founder of London-based Clareville Capital; Jim Chanos, founding member of US-based Kynikos Associates, the largest dedicated short-seller in the world; Martin Cornish, managing partner of law firm Katten Muchin Rosenmann Cornish; and Andrew Baker, chief executive officer of global hedge fund trade association AIMA.
