Centaurus returns to risk arb roots

Centaurus Capital, the long-running London-based event-driven hedge fund led by former BNP Paribas men Bernard Oppetit and Randy Freeman, is off to a strong start with its new International Risk Arbitrage fund, following the decision to move from a multi-strategy to a multi-fund approach after the problems of 2008.

Having decided to liquidate its flagship Centaurus Alpha multi-strategy portfolio last autumn, the process is already 85% complete following the managers' decision to trigger a vote to accelerate the return of capital to investors. Now the firm has returned to its roots in risk arb with the launch of a dedicated single-strategy fund.
