Omni Partners picks up former JP Morgan equity prop trader

Andrew Pickup, who previously ran equities for JP Morgan's proprietary positioning business in London, has joined London-based Omni Partners to launch a new long/short equity fund that has already attracted $100 million in seed capital.

Pickup spent six years at JP Morgan, where he built the firm's long/short proprietary trading business and ran a multi-strategy equity portfolio that comprised an event-driven component as well as convertibles and volatility and included investments run from London and New York.

Pickup's new fund started trading in October as a managed account, and the external fund will formally launch in November. Pickup describes the strategy as traditional long/short equity with a trading overlay, and it is run with low volatility.
