Allstate's Vogt and Investcorp's Gurnani agree that managed accounts add consistent alpha

During periods of stress, for example in 2008, the positive
return difference between portfolios focused on separate
accounts and portfolios primarily invested in commingled funds
can reach up to 10% per year. This is according to a new white
paper authored by Christopher Vogt, portfolio manager for hedge
funds at Allstate Investments, and Deepak Gurnani, chief
