The UCITS hedge funds industry to top more than a trillion dollars, report says

Assets in UCITS hedge funds could grow to more than $1.5 trillion by 2020, according to a new report.


The 20-page report, Alternative and hedge fund UCITS through the next decade, by researchers Strategic Insight states UCITS hedge funds are expected to raise more than $793.7 billion (€600 billion) of cumulative net new flows in the coming decade.

UCITS funds are on track to finish 2010 with $43.7 billion (€33 billion) of net new flows, the report predicts. According to the HedgeFund Intelligence database, there are currently around 600 funds with assets under management of $60 billion.

The report states: "If 7% annual returns can be achieved in combination with these flows, total assets in alternative UCITS could grow to $1.5 trillion (€1.2 trillion) by 2020.
