The term "hedge fund" is a catch-all designation for a lightly
regulated private investment pool, and many of the
country’s most outrageous conmen use the
appellation when pitching a Ponzi. The past year offered no
shortage of brazen attempts to steal investors' cash, and
investors believing wildly optimistic return profiles from
amateurish-sounding funds weren’t in short supply
