Shuhei Abe, the president ,CEO and Group CIO of the $8.3 billion Sparx Group of Japan, says the firm is gearing up to gain more significant exposure in the Japanese renewable energy sector given a rapidly evolving shift in Japanese energy policy aimed at reducing the country's dependence on nuclear energy.

The sector, he tells AsiaHedge, will be a key investment focus of the group, including its Hong Kong-based OneAsia team, which is evolving as a part of Sparx's transformation as a pan-Asian house. The group has already been looking at renewable energy in Japan for the past three years and is now looking to take its expertise regional. It is starting with China, where it has just taken one of the 24 core member seats at the Shanghai Environment and Energy Exchange.
