Macquarie pan-Asian long/short fund plots expansion

Quant trader Nick Bird, the portfolio manager of the $1.46
billion Macquarie Asian Alpha long/short equity fund, has
relocated to Hong Kong from Sydney and is looking to expand his
team's research capacity and hire more talent aimed at further
sharpening the group's portfolio management skills.
The fund has seen a strong performance, being up 10.74%
between January and July 2011. In 2009 and 2010, the fund
delivered returns of 14.19% and 10.31%, respectively. Month-to
-date during this exceptionally volatile august, the fund has
also posted a positive return so far of 0.4%.
Interest in the fund continues to rise with requests for new
