Australia’s maturing hedge fund industry seeks local investors

Having shown prowess in handling volatility in the markets, it is time for Australian hedge fund managers to court investment from their home turf
Australia is something of an anomaly in the Asian hedge funds
space. It has a plethora of mature, world-class hedge fund
managers and yet it tends to be a fairly insular and domestic
The country's stock market itself is mature and
sophisticated, with a healthy variety of listed companies.
There are ample opportunity to play Asian investment themes,
and at the same time Australia's rule of law, tight regulatory
environment and legal system are on a par with Europe and the
US. There is a substantial domestic financial services sector
and a long tradition of Australian managers working in the
international capital markets, then bringing their experience
and skills home with them.

$46.5 billion including $32.5 billion in hedge funds and $14
billion in fund of hedge funds, according to data
