Volatile Chinese equities market yields opportunities For Pacific Sun

China-related stocks have been under pressure but where others might see fear, Andy Mantel, founder and chief executive of Pacific Sun Advisors, sees opportunity in the fast-growing, volatile market
Despite difficult market conditions, Hong Kong-based Pacific Sun launched its second fund, a long-only strategy, last year (The Pacific Sun Greater China Equities Fund was rolled out in November 2011). The firm also expanded to include seven partners.
“2011 was a transition year for us,” said Mantel. Having lived and worked in Greater China for more than 20 years, Mantel has had first-hand experience with all the ups and downs in the fast-growing Chinese equities market.
Mantel started Pacific Sun in 2000, initially advising investors, then in 2003 launched The China Mantou Fund, a single equity long/short fund, with Kansas-based Jayhawk Capital as a seed investor. The fund started with $10 million and grew to more than $50 million at its peak. The firm now has two funds, giving investors the option to be long/short or long-only.
