Macro funds attract attention as markets continue to wobble

Global investors are waking up to the potential of Asian macro funds – a burgeoning category that is notching up some notable success stories
Macro funds are still relatively rare in Asia but gaining
popularity as the region’s volatile stock markets
drive managers to seek cover and find other ways to make money
in a topsy-turvey market. The fact that some of the most
successful funds from Asia in the past few years, such as Dymon

And yet the macro category remains largely uncrowded in
Asia, where equity long/short funds still dominate. According
to the AsiaHedge database, there are only 27 Asian macro funds,
compared with 99 Chinese equity funds, in the market today.
While historically few Asian managers traded global macro, in
recent years they have come into their own and had considerable
success trading Asian macro. The growth in the macro sector has
