The launch last month of a new standalone multi-strategy global
equity trading product by BTG Pactual Asset Management marks
the next major step in the expansion of the fast-growing
Brazil-headquartered banking and asset management group's
Led by former JP Morgan global equity derivatives head David
Herzberg, the new BTG Pactual Global Equity Opportunities fund
aims to bring the same team-based and multi-strategy approach
to global equity trading that has driven the success of the
group's $2.5 billion Global Emerging Markets and Macro fund
(GEMM) - which focuses on fixed-income and credit markets.
The global equity strategy has been run with proprietary
capital since August 2011 - returning an impressive 8% to the
end of 2011 in the bearish market environment of the second
half of last year and gaining a further 11% in the first two
months of this year, in a bullish market climate...
