After eight years at the helm of Hong Kong-based Blue Pool
Capital, co-founder Alexander West is taking on more
responsibility rather than less. Starting at the beginning of
2011, West was reinstated as the sole risk taker, making all
the firm’s investment decisions. The choice to go
"back to square one" has been a change for the better as well
as a learning experience.
Named after a street in Hong Kong’s Happy
Valley district, Blue Pool Capital was started in 2004.
Alexander West and Joe Tsai, who previously worked together at
Investor AB’s Asian investment operations,
launched Blue Pool’s flagship fund, the Absolute
Partner Fund, in 2004 with $9 million in seed money from their
own pockets. Today, the team has about $50 million invested
with the fund.
