In June, Barack Obama made it clear how much he appreciated Marc Lasry.

"I just want to thank them for their extraordinary friendship," Obama said of the Avenue Capital founder and his family during a $40,000-per-plate campaign fundraiser held June 4 at their Upper East Side Manhattan home. "They have been great supporters and great friends for a really, really long time. And so to open up their beautiful home to us and offer such great hospitality, I can't be more grateful."

Now reelected, President Obama is likely to make that gratitude tangible by nominating Lasry to be the American ambassador to France.

According to recent reports by The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, CNN and others, Lasry is the frontrunner for the position. Of course, there's the possibility someone else is nominated or he doesn't make it through the confirmation process....
