Hedge funds gained 0.92% in March

About one-fifth of equity funds are beating the S&P 500 this year.


March was broadly positive for hedge funds, with the HedgeFund Intelligence Global Composite up 0.92%. Americas hedge funds gained 1.15%, driven by gains from U.S. equity (1.77%) and event-driven (2.10%) strategies. 

Most equity funds in the U.S. significantly trailed stock indices, with the S&P 500 up 3.75%. Based on early reporting, about 17% of the equity funds in the database beat the S&P 500 in March, and about 19% are beating the index for the year.
