TCW founder backs fund launched by ex-DoubleLine equities pro

Husam Nazer, a former long-time TCW Group manager who recently served as a co-head of DoubleLine Capital’s equity business, has set out on his own with the backing of TCW founder Robert Addison Day. Nazer, who left the Los Angeles-based DoubleLine at the end of June, plans to launch the equity-focused Sword Capital Partners September 1, according to filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and a person familiar with the matter.

The new, Los Angeles-based fund will pinpoint equities investments in small and middle-market companies, the filing said, but also expects to use derivatives positions to bolster long and short bets. It will hedge using sector index ETFs.
