CQS was founded in London in 1999 by Michael Hintze, a former proprietary trader at Credit Suisse and elsewhere, and has gone to become of the leading multi-strategy firms in European hedge funds with offices also in Hong Kong, Sydney, New York, Geneva, Luxembourg, the Cayman Islands and the Channel Islands.

The firm is a multiple nominee and winner of the EuroHedge Awards, taking the Fund of the Year award in 2010 for its CQS Directional Opportunities Fund.
