Build for success not just survival

Now the Asia-Pacific region is part of the mainstream hedge fund industry, a good quality investment and support platform needs to be in place from the outset, writes Paul Storey

Starting an Asia-Pacific hedge fund has never been easier,with armies of service providers available who have already helped a generation of managers launch. However, what has really changed is the perception of the region. It is no longer viewed as the peripheral poor relation of the global hedge fund community. Instead, it is now part of the mainstream.

No longer do Asia-Pacific managers have to start in tiny offices on a shoestring and hope that a run of good performance will attract the attention of the investor community. Today, investors are actively scouring Asia looking for talent, as many feel that there are great opportunities in the region for long/short equity managers and that arbitrage trades in the region...
