With nearly 30 years' experience in Asia, Knight Asset Management's managing partner knows a good opportunity when he sees it

Choosing to launch a hedge fund business in 2000 in an unconventional location, like Bangkok, may be regarded as a very brave venture. But, for Jeremy King, managing partner at Knight Asset Management, it seemed like a perfectly good idea. "Communications and support services have caught up with other Asian cities, and the lifestyle is superior," says King.

Having lived in Asia since 1985, King had acquired a deep knowledge of the Thai financial industry as well as the broader Asian markets. From 1987 to 1997, he ran Kerry Financial Services in Hong Kong, a joint venture with the Kuok family, owners of the Shangri-La Hotels. After the partners sold Kerry in 1997, King decided to concentrate exclusively on fund management.
