TCI: a charitable outlook and stellar performance
The philanthropic, and highly successful, hedge fund of Christopher Hohn is inspiring other managers to follow suit
Christopher Hohn and his colleagues at the Children's Investment Fund have set a tremendous role model for other aspirant managers. Within a year of launching in January 2004, they reached assets of over $2 billion, and with returns over 43%, romped away with the prestigious award as EuroHedge Fund of the Year - the first time a fund has got the award in its debut year.
The returns were remarkable, but there was a further dimension that was truly inspiring. And, if this inspires more managers to follow suit, Hohn and his colleagues will not be losing any sleep over facing new competitors - instead, they will be cheering them on.
