Failure to choose a professional administrator can prove costly in the long run as the role is central to the smooth running of a fund of hedge funds. Other than calculating the value of the portfolio the administrator has a myriad of functions, from supplying back-office services to shareholder services and assistance in the preparation of financial statements.

An experienced administrator can also bring invaluable experience and support during the critical setup phase. Get the decision right and a weight can be lifted from the shoulders of the investment managers, allowing them to focus on picking the best hedge funds. Get it wrong and managers and shareholders will face months of frustration.
