Hedge funds across the globe are now managing aggregate
assets of over $2 trillion. That is the clear and unambiguous
conclusion that we now draw from an up-to-date analysis of the
HedgeFund Intelligence databases and our associated surveys.
This represents very robust growth of over 30% in the past year
- since we reported that collective hedge fund assets had
breached $1.5 trillion for the first time in early 2006.
More than half of the industry's assets are still accounted
for by the big groups in the United States - with the top 241
US firms in the Absolute Return Billion Dollar Club weighing in
at collective assets of about $1.2 trillion according to the
latest survey of January 2007.
