Hedge funds in Asia, although nearly 30% were in the black year-to-date (at the end of November 2008), find themselves at a critical crossroad in 2009.

Their troubles are well-documented: poor performance, no performance fees, redemptions, gates, short-selling bans, cries for regulation, exposure to Lehman Brothers, negative press suggesting a ‘tainted brand’, and the Madoff scandal.
