New fund assets edge up 15%, but still languish below pre-crisis peak

New hedge funds that reached $50 million of assets or more during 2010 raised a combined amount of more than $30 billion in 2010, according to HedgeFund Intelligence data and the new fund surveys of AR, EuroHedge and AsiaHedge.

The number of these larger fund launches seems to have stalled - with 135 new funds launched during 2010 reaching the $50 million threshold - on par with the previous year, when 139 funds that reached that size were launched.
