The financial crisis placed the global hedge fund industry
under unprecedented pressure. Not only did it lead to a
significant contraction of the industry – now largely
reversed – but it also created major legislative and
regulatory challenges that we continue to face today. Lawmakers
around the world felt free to criticise the industry and to
propose unhelpful laws restricting investors’
choice, damaging market efficiency and needlessly raising
costs, thereby threatening the very future of the sector.
