Old Mutual Asset Managers is getting back on the front foot again with its long-running UK Specialist Equity Fund as part of a broader expansion of the firm’s hedge fund business.

Run by Ashton Bradbury, the long/short strategy – which focuses on smaller and mid-cap stocks in the UK – has delivered a very solid performance over the nine years that it has now been going since its inception in March 2003.

The fund’s annualised volatility through an exceptionally volatile and changeable equity market cycle is extraordinarily low at just 3.6%, while the annualised return of 7.2% (which includes a gain of 5.5% in 2011) has been achieved with the rare distinction of no down years in its main sterling share class.
