BlueCrest, Brevan Howard, Horseman and Trafalgar Asset Managers led the line-up of winners at the annual EuroHedge Awards – which were announced and presented at a dinner and awards ceremony held in London that was attended by some 800 leading figures in the hedge fund industry.
Brevan Howard won the Fund of the Year award, while BlueCrest won the Management Firm of the Year award. Horseman and Trafalgar each won two awards, reflecting the strong performances of both groups during the year.
The EuroHedge Awards for 2008, now in their eighth year, paid recognition to those funds that had achieved the best risk-adjusted performance across a range of strategy areas in an exceptionally tough year for hedge funds and for the financial industry.

Silver Creek Capital Management of Seattle, a winner of multiple awards in 2005, walked away with two awards at the Award ceremony in New York on 14 March, including Group of the Year, an accolade it also picked up last year. But this year the firm shared the limelight with Benchmark Plus of Tacoma, Washington.
Silver Creek, founded by Eric Dillon and Tim Flaherty in 1994, also took home the Emerging Managers Award for the third year running, while Benchmark Plus, founded by Robert Ferguson and Scott Franzblau in 1998, won prizes for the best big Global Multi-Strategy fund as well as for New Fund of the Year.

Parvus European Absolute Opportunities, a long/short European equity fund run by former Mercury Asset Management / Merrill Lynch Investment Managers star Edoardo Mercadante, took the plaudits of the European hedge fund industry by winning the Fund of the Year award at the annual EuroHedge Awards, held on 25 January at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
In doing so, Parvus became the successor to The Children's Investment Fund, which was Fund of the Year in both of the previous two years at the EuroHedge Awards. Given that Parvus is an affiliate of TCI Fund Management, it also continues the TCI group's remarkable run of successes at the awards.
Other big winners on the year included the GLG Emerging Markets fund, which took away two prizes - for best New Fund of the Year in non-equity strategies, and also for best fund in High Yield, Emerging Markets & Distressed Debt - with a return of just under 60% for the year.
The much-coveted Management Firm of the Year Award was won this time by RAB Capital, reflecting the London-listed firm's tremendous success in achieving the highest weighted outperformance over the EuroHedge medians across its range of products, as well as the fastest rate of growth among the leading firms.

The AsiaHedge 5th Annual Awards, held at the Marriott Hotel in Hong Kong on the 19th October, saw an eclectic mix of funds take the plaudits for 2006.
In what is now a globally recognised event, and as Asia-Pacific hedge funds and the industry they represent have grown in stature over recent years, the Fund of the Year was awarded to Rockhampton Management's Rockhampton Fund.

The growing impact of the Asia-Pacific hedge fund industry on the wider absolute return stage - and on the regional markets - were among the talking points at this year's event in Hong Kong
"Going Global" was the theme of this year's AsiaHedge Forum, held in Hong Kong from 18-19 October, a fitting title for an event that both celebrated and closely examined the region's maturing hedge funds industry.
Across the Forum's 11 sessions and three keynote speeches, plus the break-time networking sessions, several recurring themes emerged: how the industry is grappling with the issue of differentiation from long-only funds; the problem of crowded trades; and style rotation. And proving that bad news gets the biggest press, one name - Amaranth - cropped up again and again in many different contexts throughout the two-day event.

Over 750 delegates gathered on 15-16 March to take part in the third annual EuroHedge Summit, held once again at the magnificent Palais de la Bourse in Paris.
Among the highlights of the two-day event was a commanding performance from one keynote speaker, GLG's co-CEO Emmanuel Roman, on why hedge funds have become such an important feature of the overall investment management business - and on what that means going forward.
Delegates also witnessed a very engaging address from the other keynote speaker, Michael Hintze of CQS - on the extraordinary lengths to which a top hedge fund firm must go to stay on top of the complex challenges of risk management in the business today.
And they saw a thoroughgoing (if sobering) assessment of current global macro fundamentals - and the likely opportunities that these will generate - led by Fulcrum Asset Management chairman Gavyn Davies.

A crowd of nearly 450 people attended the event at the glamourous Vanderbilt Hall in Grand Central Station in New York to honour the achievements of the funds of funds community in 2005.
Seattle-based Silver Creek Capital Management walked away with four awards. The firm, founded in 1994 by Eric Dillon and Tim Flaherty, excelled in a number of categories, including Group of the Year. In 2005, Silver Creek, which has $4.5 billion under management, dominated the multi-strategy arena and took home both multi-strategy awards, as well as winning the emerging manager award for the second year running. Financial Risk Management, the $12 billion London-based firm founded by Blaine Tomlinson, also walked away with two awards.

The second Absolute Return Symposium was a two-day event based on the successful format of panel sessions, along with two or three hand-picked keynote speakers and attendance by U.S. industry professionals. Barton Biggs and William Von Mueffling were two of the leading participants at the 2004 Symposium, which attracted a capacity audience of 400. The Symposium was held at Gotham Hall.

The top names and outstanding achievers from the U.S. hedge fund industry were on display at the inaugural Absolute Return Awards Dinner in New York on November 1, 2005. Winners were chosen on a quantitative basis using a method, which has been successfully used at the prestigious EuroHedge Awards dinner in London, where managers prize the recognition the awards give them and the branding they offer. The short-lists for the Awards were dominated by some of the biggest brand names in the industry, and those that came through to win featured a mixture of very well-established and newer players. Glenview Capital Partners and Clarium Capital Management were among the big winners.

This was Australia's year at the fourth Annual AsiaHedge Awards, held at a gala dinner attended by 350 leading figures in the industry in Hong Kong. Australian managers took an unprecedented six of the 11 awards on offer at this prestigious event, including the Fund of the Year overall. Basis Capital's Yield Fund won the top accolade and claimed the Best Fixed Income, High Yield & Distressed Fund award as well. Another Australian firm, Mathews Capital, also picked up two awards on the night, with its Sabre fund winning the International category, and its Tomahawk fund winning the New Fund of the Year award for ex-Japan strategies.

The initial AsiaHedge Forum in 2004 brought together hedge fund managers and investors from throughout the world to discuss the major issues facing the Asian hedge fund industry. Sessions were predominantly organised as panel discussions with a select number of keynote speakers invited to address the event.

Top names from the traditional asset management world gathered with leading lights of the hedge fund world to tackle the big industry issues at the EuroHedge Forum 2005.
Nicola Horlick and Stewart Newton, two of the biggest names from the mainstream asset management world, joined the big debate at the EuroHedge Forum, held again at the Park Lane Hotel in London on 20-21 September.
Horlick, now of Bramdean, and Newton, whose Real Return group entered the hedge fund space with the first Veritas fund last year, participated in an opening session on how hedge funds are playing an increasing role in shaping the broader asset management industry.
The theme for the event was Testing the Boundaries, and the opening session set the scene for a series of panels looking at various ways hedge funds are playing a more prominent role in the financial world.

A capacity crowd of more than 400 people attended the event to honour the achievements of the funds of funds community in 2004. This was the year when performance picked up in the last two months and the place to be were the emerging markets, which returned more than 12% for the year. Although perhaps more than for performance, 2004 will be remembered as the year that more than $150 billion of new assets flowed into the funds of funds industry.

"Facing the Brave New World" drew a number of the industry's most esteemed managers and investors - to the audience as well as to the dais. In all, a capacity crowd of 500 attended the event, which was held at Gotham Hall in Manhattan's Herald Square.

Nearly 250 people attended the AsiaHedge Awards 2003 at the Aberdeen Marina Club in Hong Kong on 23 October, having been delayed from June as a result of the SARS crisis. The highly successful event - which saw Tower K1 top the plaudits - was not only an occasion to honour the best that the Asia-Pacific hedge fund industry has had to offer over the past year or so; it was also an excellent opportunity for Asia-Pacific hedge fund managers to meet with a slew of investors that had come to Hong Kong for the event from all over the world, including Europe and the United States.
