InvestHedge Awards for Investor Excellence 2012

Venue: The British Museum
Location: London
Dates: Wednesday, 03 October 2012 - Wednesday, 03 October 2012

The InvestHedge Awards recognise the best risk-adjusted performance of funds of hedge funds globally . This year, the InvestHedge Awards will be held in conjunction with the InvestHedge Forum, making a single must-attend event for hedge funds and the investor community. The Awards will continue to recognise risk-adjusted performance but, in line with the industry's development, will also include categories for seeding, innovation, customisation, UCITS and longer-term risk-adjusted performance, as well as reward top institutional investors for their use of hedge funds. Nomination Criteria

The aim of the InvestHedge Awards is to recognise those global funds of hedge funds which have produced the best risk-adjusted returns over a 5 year period, with awards being presented across a variety of strategy areas.  This year we have also introduced new awards for consultants and individual hedge fund groups to reflect the changes that have generally been taking place in the industry over the past five years where customisation, consolidation and general fee compression are forcing businesses to rethink their models along with the needs of their clients.

What period of time do the awards cover?
The majority of awards (unless stated) have a 5 year time frame, where we have looked at performance from August 2007 to July 2012.

What are the nomination criteria?

For the majority of the InvestHedge Awards the data used will come from the InvestHedge Database of Funds of Hedge Funds, which tracks over 2,200 active funds of hedge funds run by over 550 management companies globally.

Funds need to have the most up to date performance in the InvestHedge Database by 30 June 2012 or they will not be included in the nomination process.

Most of the main award categories require a minimum asset level of at least $100 million, apart from the ones where a specific asset size has been highlighted – see category listings below.

To reach final nominee stage, all funds must have presented to us with a strategy allocation breakdown for each fund nominated, dated June 2012.

Nominations for the 5 year risk-adjusted awards are decided by those funds that achieve the strongest Sharpe ratios over the time frame as long as they also beat the median returns in their relevant peer group.

The winners will be the funds that achieve the best returns, as long as they also achieve Sharpe ratios within 25% of the best of the nominees.

For most of the main awards, except for longer-term 10-year and 20-year categories, in order to win a fund has to be within 10% of its High Water Mark.

InvestHedge decides which category a fund is nominated in.

Some new awards have been introduced this year to reflect changes in the industry, such as institutional hedge fund, fund of funds, and Consultant.  The criteria for these awards are listed below.
