Children's Investment Fund triumphs again at EuroHedge Awards

(LONDON, 19th January 2006) The Children's Investment Fund, managed by Christopher Hohn, took the plaudits of the industry by winning the Fund of the Year award for an unprecedented second year in a row at the annual EuroHedge Awards for 2005. In only its second year of trading, the Children's fund delivered an even better return than in 2004 of over 50%.

The annual EuroHedge Awards was held for the fifth time on 19 January at the Natural History Museum in London, and was attended by nearly 800 leading figures in the European hedge fund industry. The awards again honoured the top risk-adjusted performers of the year.

Other big winners on the year included Lansdowne Partners, which won the fiercely contested Management Firm of the Year award, as well as another award for the second year running for its UK equity fund, an award that was shared this time with the MPC Pilgrim fund.

While many previous winners were nominated again, the only other repeat winner this time from 2004 was the Millennium Global High Yield fund, which won again in the High Yield and Distressed category.

IKOS Partners also won two awards for the year, in Statistical Arbitrage and Macro, as did Capital Fund Management of Paris, which won in Managed Futures with its Discus fund and in Multi-Strategy with Stratus.

Background & Decision Criteria

To qualify, funds must submit their data to the EuroHedge database, which captures about 90% of all European funds.

For the main categories, funds need to meet a minimum asset average of $200 million over the past 12 months, with the exception of the European Small Caps, Statistical & Quantitative Arbitrage, Credit, Mixed Arbitrage & Multi-Strategy and High Yield & Distressed awards - where the minimum level is set at $100 million.

The Sharpe Ratio is used to select the nominees. The best performer amongst the nominees then wins each award, providing the fund's Sharpe Ratio is within 25% of the best Sharpe Ratio in the category.

The New Fund of the Year categories, as well as overall Fund of the Year and the Management Firm of the Year, do not lend themselves to a Sharpe Ratio comparison, so we use an array of other quantitative measures to decide these awards.
