SEC’s Kathleen Casey to chair AIMA

The former Republican commissioner and veteran of Capitol Hill has a history of supporting hedge fund interests.

Kathleen Casey, a Republican U.S. Securities and Exchange Commissioner from 2006 to 2011, has been selected to chair the Alternative Investment Management Association, according to a person familiar with the situation. A formal announcement is expected tomorrow.

Casey replaces outgoing chairman Todd Groome following the end of his two consecutive two-year term as one of the hedge fund industry’s most prominent lobbyists. The chairman’s role is part time, and Andrew Baker will remain chief executive of AIMA, which is based in London and has more than 1,300
