Macquarie expands the capacity of its Asia quant fund

Macquarie, the Sydney-headquartered investment group, is looking to expand the capacity of its $1.6 billion Asia quant fund after effectively shutting it down to new subscriptions in the middle of last year.

The team that runs the strategy, headed by quant trader Nick Bird, will soon be hiring three more people to beef up its capabilities.

The appointments, which will boost the quant fund team headcount to 17, will also enable the firm to have greater flexibility and resources with which to introduce products, including possibly a European quant fund, to the market
