David Noh, highly regarded Asian-based investor and former head of Asian merchant banking at Citadel, the giant Chicago-based hedge fund group headed by Ken Griffin, is launching a new special situations fund next month.

His group, Tristar Capital, received its asset management licence from Hong Kong’s Securities and Futures Commission in late September, and is looking to attract significant allocations from institutions, family offices and funds of funds. Noh is understood to be investing a significant amount of his personal wealth into the fund as seed money.
