Shutdown rate back to pre-crisis levels after two-year spike

The rate of European hedge fund shutdowns appears to have returned to more normal pre-crisis levels in 2010, after spiking in 2008 and 2009 at the peak of the industry downturn.

The EuroHedge data and research team have so far confirmed 125 fund liquidations last year – compared with 124 shutdowns in 2007 and significantly higher figures for the last two years of 173 in 2008 and 189 in 2009.

The figure for 2010 does not include offshore hedge funds that converted to UCITS status during the year – nor does it include any shutdowns of UCITS funds
