Hedge funds in strong demand, Towers Watson reports

The number of hedge fund mandates grew by 50% in 2010 among Towers Watson clients worldwide, according to the consulting firm.

This is while equity mandates grew and bond mandates fell in comparison to 2009. Towers Watson said that direct hedge fund mandates now account for 60% of all the firm’s hedge fund searches, but renewed interest in hedge funds and demand for fund of hedge fund mandates are rising back to 2008 levels. Equity, fixed income and insurance strategies are the most popular direct hedge fund strategies.
