World Bank’s IFC takes first steps


The World Bank’s International Finance Corp arm has ventured into hedge fund investing for the first time, providing $100 million of seed capital for an innovative vehicle to be managed by London- and New York-based Christofferson Robb & Co.

The IFC has invested in private equity for some time but this is its first venture into a hedge fund. The Christofferson Robb hedge fund aims to transfer risk from banks to investors, putting up cash to cover unexpected loan losses in return for a cut from the bank.
