Rice alum Thacker to head up investment office

Allison Thacker, a former managing director at a major mutual fund and institutional investment firm, has been named president of the Rice Management Company and now serves as Rice University’s chief investment officer, treasurer and vice president for investments.

She replaces Scott Wise, who left in 2010 to focus on offering fund of fund programmes to university and not-for-profit portfolios, such as foundations, across the US. His firm, Covariance Capital, recently received seed capital from TIAA-CREF.

Wise served as CIO at Rice since 1989. During his time at the endowment it grew from $990 million to $3.9 billion
