University of Cincinnati boosts hedge funds

The endowment for the University of Cincinnati hired a new chief investment officer, Karl Scheer, in September after the retirement of Thomas Croft, who headed the investment office since 2005.

Scheer is said to come to the university from a local family office called Summer Hill Capital Partners and officially joined the endowment in September.

Going forward, staffers expect that the $1 billion portfolio will boost its allocation to hedge fund strategies. It is not known how large the future allocation will be, but the increase is in the early phase of discussion.
