A focus on Chinese consumer stocks and large exposure to Taiwan enabled the Tantallon Emerging Markets Fund to gain 4.08% in December, topping off a stellar year with a return of 83.37% for 2009.
The big call in 2009, says Tantallon's Tariq Ahmad, was an early realisation that while all markets were correcting in unison in the second half of 2008, economic trends in emerging economies were diverging sharply. This was reflected through large exposures to Russia and Brazil, and to resilient economies like India and China.
2010 will be tougher than 2009, Ahmed says. Whereas the big
