Ex-Goldman/ML star trader starting Japan multi-strategy fund

by

Tan Maruyama, formerly a star proprietary trader with Goldman Sachs and Merrill Lynch in Japan, has set up Round Rock Capital Advisors in Tokyo, with plans to roll out a Japan-focused multi-strategy fund. The fund will have three underlying strategies: CB arbitrage, credit and equity long/short. It is expected to start with $30 million, with a target soft-close of $300 million.

Tan, who has managed over $2 billion in assets during his 17-year career in the Japan credit/CB area, was previously the head of the bank's credit sales and trading and a member of MLJS executive management committee.
