Long and short gains help boost China Eagle to triple-digit returns

Gains on both the long and the short side helped the China Eagle Fund go up 5.42% in January, taking 12-month cumulative returns to 104.58%.

On the basis of less attractive valuations and downbeat short-term sentiment in the mainland property sector, the China long/short equity fund reduced some of its industrial and property-related holdings in the first half of the month. This was when the market went higher and the fund was able to take a profit, says China Eagle Asset Management's Jason Yang.

During January, its weighting of IPPs and telecoms gradually increased based on potential fundamental improvement.
