F&C set to buy Thames River Capital for $81.5m


F&C Asset Management is set to buy Thames River Capital group, including its $1.7 billion fund of hedge funds, for $81.5 million payable in cash, loan notes and/or F&C shares. Thames River, founded in 1998 by Charlie Porter, chief executive officer, was among a number of London-based firms, thought to also include Ermitage, which were looking for a sale. Thames River has an estimated $6.4 billion of assets under management, 22.7% of which is in the fund of alternative funds business headed by Ken Kinsey- Quick and Alex Kuiper.
