Ruffer gains client Mitchells & Butlers

The Mitchells & Butlers Common Investment Fund has made a move into absolute return investing, with an allocation of unknown size into a fund managed by Ruffer, a London-based firm that boasts Crispin Odey as a non-executive director.

The $1.96 billion fund has no hedge fund exposure but is undergoing an investment strategy review. It is not known as yet whether this will result in further absolute return or potential hedge fund investments.

The Common Investment Fund manages the funds of the brewing group's charitable trusts, the Mitchell Fund, the Welfare Fund and the Scholarship Fund.
