Hillhouse plans Hong Kong office, sources say


Hillhouse Capital Management, one of Asia’s largest hedge funds with $4 billion under management, is understood to be setting up an office in Hong Kong, adding to its Singapore outpost and Beijing headquarters. The planned Hong Kong operation is expected to carry out trading and marketing activities, according to industry sources.

Set up in 2005 with $30 million in start-up capital from the Yale endowment, Hillhouse now counts as its investors leading endowments and foundations in the US and Europe. The low-profile firm, founded by Yale alumnus Lei Zhang, takes a long-term fundamental research approach to invest in
