A promising start for global equity was hit by volatility which killed returns


Weak economic data and fears over potential deflation took their toll in August, driving global equity markets lower despite global indices such as S&P 500 and the FTSE 100 all testing three-month highs in the first half of the month.

Returns from global equity funds of funds were mixed, and the median was down 0.4%, taking the year-to-date figures to -1.32%.

Gottex Market Neutral Barclays US Aggregate Fund was up 1.54%, taking year-to-date numbers to 7.75%, while Berens Capital Fund was up 0.74% to leave the year's returns at 5.88%.

Prisma long/short equity portfolio was up 0.46% to leave year-to-date
