Artha steps into Asia via Singapore

US-based Artha Capital Management, the $1.8 billion emerging markets specialist, has established an office in Singapore, where it will oversee its investments in regional markets that include China and India.

The firm’s Artha Emerging Markets Fund invests globally in emerging markets that include Mexico, Brazil, South Africa and Russia. In Asia, it holds shares in China-based companies Focus Media, which operates an extensive ad network in China, and in online hotel and flight booking agent Ctrip. The directional equity strategy uses both a top-down and bottom-up approach that is focused on fundamental research.
